Clear Mission

My name is Bid — and I write books, articles, and content about the things I have needed most in my own life: confidence, discipline, focus, and identity.

I am a self-published author based in Kenya. I published my first book without a publisher, without a literary agent, without a marketing budget, and without an established audience. I had a manuscript, a belief that the ideas in it were genuine and useful, and a willingness to learn everything else. That first book — UNSHAKEABLE — became the foundation of everything that followed.

"Most self-help content gives you a feeling. I want to give you a framework. Something that works on the hard days, not just the inspired ones."

Where This Started

The work started from a very personal place. For several years, I experienced the gap that many people know well: the gap between understanding what to do and actually doing it. Between knowing the theory of confidence and feeling it in the moments that counted. Between reading about discipline and living it consistently under real conditions — the kind that involve financial pressure, uncertain outcomes, and no one watching to hold you accountable.

I read widely during those years. I found value in many books and articles. But I kept encountering the same limitation: the advice was either too abstract to apply or too specific to transfer to my actual life and context. I live in East Africa. I am building something from scratch with limited structural advantages. Most of the productivity and confidence literature is written from a position of relative stability and privilege. The principles are often sound — but the application assumes conditions I did not have.

So I started writing the books I needed and could not find. Not to compete with the established canon, but to add a perspective it was missing. Honest, direct, tested under real conditions, and written for people who are doing the hard thing from a place that does not look like the cover of a business magazine.

The Books

There are now seven published books. Each one started as a question I was genuinely trying to answer for myself, and became something I believed was worth sharing. UNSHAKEABLE asks why some people maintain their sense of self under pressure while others collapse — and what you can do to become someone who does not collapse. The Discipline Blueprint examines why motivation is unreliable and what actually sustains consistent action over time. The Focus Protocol is about the most valuable resource most people are unconsciously surrendering every day: their attention.

The other books cover identity transformation (The Identity Shift), finding clarity in an overwhelming world (Quiet the Noise), using AI tools ethically as a student (ChatGPT for Students), and fiction (The Bottom Transcript — a deep-sea thriller that allowed me to explore narrative and tension in a completely different way). All books are available on Gumroad and Payhip. There is also a complete collection bundle for readers who want the full library at a meaningful discount.

The Blog and Content

This blog publishes free articles on confidence, discipline, focus, productivity, relationships, mindset, and personal development. Currently over 29 articles, all written to the same standard as the books: no padding, no generic advice repackaged with new formatting, no content that exists primarily to rank on search engines. Each article is an attempt to say something true and useful about a subject I have thought seriously about.

Beyond the written work, I create daily short-form video content across YouTube Shorts, TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook — three separate content series running across three accounts, covering discipline and confidence, personal life and culture, and Islamic reflections. The Islamic content is particularly meaningful to me: every piece in that series is sourced and verified, with full citation of the Quranic verse or hadith and its grading. Faith and intellectual honesty are not in tension. I try to demonstrate that in everything I publish in that space.

On Writing From East Africa

There is something I want to say directly about the experience of building a creative and publishing business from Kenya that rarely gets said in the spaces where these conversations happen. The opportunities are real. The platforms exist and they work. Gumroad and Payhip reach global audiences. The infrastructure for creating, publishing, and monetising good content has never been more accessible. African creators who move seriously and consistently in this space have a genuine opportunity — not despite being African, but with the particular perspective and experience that produces.

What I have found is that the challenges are real too, and specific in ways that most content about building an online business does not address. Amazon KDP is not available to me. Kobo Writing Life reviewed my work and rejected it outright — a form letter citing Section 2 of their Terms of Service, no specific reason, no reversal on appeal. Stripe is not available in Kenya, which closes off Lemon Squeezy, the Medium Partner Program, and Substack's paid subscription tier as monetisation options. These are not obscure platforms — they are the default tools that most of the self-publishing advice on the internet assumes you have access to.

So the path has required finding what actually works: Selar for African buyers, Gumroad and Payhip for international reach, PayPal-compatible platforms for payouts. The books are live. The operation is running. But it is a different operation from what you would build if you were starting in the US or the UK, and I think there is value in documenting that clearly. Infrastructure is less reliable. Payment options are more limited. The starting audience is smaller. Trust-building takes longer. None of these are insurmountable — but all of them require a more patient and resilient approach than the "build fast and scale" rhetoric usually suggests. I write about this honestly in the blog and intend to keep doing so.

Values

Everything published here — books, articles, videos — is built on three commitments: honesty over inspiration, depth over reach, and practice over theory. I am not interested in making you feel good for five minutes. I am interested in giving you something that changes how you operate on the Tuesday morning when nothing is going well and you have to decide whether to keep going or not. That is the test I apply to everything I publish. Does it help on the hard days? If yes, it belongs here. If it only helps when you are already feeling motivated, it does not.
